coffee maker

i love my coffee!

coffee maker

When I was in Holland I bought a packet of Douwe Egbert (red) grounded coffee. You can’t buy this brand in Malaysia. It was really good. Not too strong but not too light. I loved it. I cherished every sip, every drop of coffee that comes out from each spoonful of grounded bean. Then one fine day, it was my last cup. The 500g of beans had to finish one day and that day came too soon :(

When I’m back in Holland again, I’m gonna get like 100 packets and bring them all home!!!! But till then, I continue my search for nice coffee beans to brew at home. By the way, Starbucks don’t count. Their coffee is one of my favourite but only when bought ready made from their outlets.

Anyway, I might have found a close substitute for my Douwe Egbert.. it’s the Ikea organic coffee beans. I thinks it’s Arabica. It will work for now!

Made this baby to keep my coffee maker covered when its not in used.

My sister said “macam factory” (like a factory) at work. Hehe…

Then after this cake was completed, we decided that we should make another cake – a simple one – Butter Cake with Choco Chips! Yum!

Well, factory closed past midnight last night. It was all worthy.

Baking for KA Bazaar tomorrow

So I’m baking like mad today. While writing this post, I’m waiting for my Layered cake to bake. Every 10 minutes or so I’m adding on a new layer. It’s tedious, but really worth the effort.

This afternoon, I baked this yogurt cake. Instead of using fresh strawberries, I used canned peaches. Yes I know it sounds like a rather inferior substitute, but believe me it is super delicious. The canned peaches gives the cake a sweeter taste, because of the juices it was soaked in and because peaches are generally sweeter than strawberries. Both variations are just as good.

The cakes are all packed up for sale in our annual church bazaar tomorrow!

RM 6 for a pack of 2 pieces, each piece measuring about 3″x3″. It’s a bargain!

I guess photos for layered cake will come in the next post. Good night for now :-)

my first bread ^^

I’ve never baked bread before. I heard it takes hours and hours and all the kneeding and the yeast! :P

But today, I decided to try baking bread BECAUSE…

i wanted to,

AND…

i found a recipe which is…

FAST

NO kneeding (not much anyway!)

NO yeast

Very LITTLE ingredient

NO oil/butter

It’s called the Traditional Irish Soda Bread.

The only variation I made to the recipe was to add wholemeal flour, and I used milk+vineger for the buttermilk.

Ta da!

Each “bun” measures about 5 inch in diameter.

Crispy on the outside…

Soft & spongy on the inside.

SCORE!

chic pillows for my outdoor space

Hello again! Earlier today I mentioned that I did some sewing last week.

Here’s what I sewed.

2 large and fluffy pillows and a table cloth for my “outdoor space”.

This is where I usually have my morning cuppa joe (if the weather’s not too warm). It faces my tiny little garden, and I like to “hang out” here because my dog Scout loves the garden. He chases the birds that come visit us in the mornings.

I call this place my “Outdoor Space”. Sometimes I sew here, and occasionally my Mom does the prayers here.

And by the way, I need to confess it’s the first time in my life sewing on PIPINGS… I know how it’s done, I’ve seen it done… but i haven’t done it before until these pillows! *clap hand* hehe…

A closer look:

I know I should have iron. But iron and me are not so close friend ^^

And of course, I had to show you this! I was trying out a new pattern couple of weeks back, and yay! a new handbag for me!
and a new handbag )

Now, I’m going to really enjoy my outdoor space with a cuppa green tea. I love green tea. It’s evening, it’s dark and it’s cooling after the rain this afternoon.

:-)

hello churros!

My last post was slightly more than a week ago.

Not much of sewing was done – just one (will share later), but I manage to do quite a lot of cooking. I made Assam (Tamarind) Prawns just 2 days ago, but I don’t have a photo for it. Was too excited to dig in and wallop the prawns :P Yesterday I made Wholemeal pancakes. Also no photos. :(

This morning, I decided to make Churros for breakfast. Recipe from here. I saw it on AFC (Asian Food Channel) and it looked easy enough to make.

Turned out good ! Slightly on the sweet side which I don’t prefer, but overall it is yummy!

My Churros turned out VERY crispy because I use a very small piping tip – which is the only one I had.

Oh ya, there this Sew Mama Sew Giveway happening on 21st of May, and I have decided to join! You can read more about it here and maybe decide to join too?

Ok, have a great day. I’ll be back later today (hopefully) to blog about my new space at home.

a healthy kinda cake- yogurt with strawberry

1 cup / 226g butter
2 cups sugar (I use only 1 cup)
3 large eggs (I use 4 as the eggs I has was small)
2.5 cups flour
a pinch of baking soda
a pinch of salt
3 tbs lemon juice
Lemon zest
220g plain thick yogurt (recipe suggested to use Greek yogurt for the thick consistency)
300g fresh strawberries, cut in halfs

1) In bowl A, sift flour, baking soda, and salt into a bowl. Put aside.
2) In bowl B, beat butter and sugar till soft and fluffy. Add in egg one at a time while continue on beating the batter. Then, add in the lemon juice.
3) Add in mixture A (flour) and yogurt alternately, little by little, while still continue beating the batter.
4) Lastly, fold in the fresh strawberries.

5) Oven is preheated at 190 degree celcius. Bake the batter for 60 – 80 minutes. The thicker the cake the longer you need to bake it (this depends on the diameter of your pan).

The cake should be browned on top, spongy moist inside.
My strawberries was oozing… yummy!!!!

New Etsy Shop: OurLadyOfGrace

I opened a new Etsy shop today. It is named Our Lady Of Grace .

This shop is mainly to sell all my “handmade Catholic/christian religious products” such as Rosary beads, photos, etc.

I’ve listed 3 items today. They are my handmade wooden photos of Mother Mary in different representations.
