first aid kit

I was inspired by this tutorial from A Spoonful Of Sugar… with improvised variations. Nevertheless I love her cute and very useful pouch idea; and I’ve been wanting to make a first aid kit for my home but haven’t really got to it until now.

I wanted something quick to sew (itchy fingers!), just something crafty to accomplish in a short time. Took me less than 15 minutes to cut and sew.

emergency aid kit1

I use felt. Cut out 2 pieces of white felt 4″x4″, and 4 pieces of red felt 1″x4″. And using a red thread I handsew the red felt onto the white one, to form a red cross. Then mod podge it to both sides of this vinyl pouch I have (free from the pharmacy when I purchase my monthly supplements).

Lo and behold! A first aid kit pouch. Easy peasy.

emergency aid kit2

Then I started filling it up with things I believe is essential in a first aid kit. I did not buy any of the items, we already have them at home except that it is all over the house. So this moderately small pouch is just the right thing to keep all these essentials in one place!

I have bandages, cotton, cotton buds, scissor, plaster, alcohol wipes, iodin wipes, disposable gloves, CPR mask, energy drink, nail clipper, twizzer, hypodermic needles, tissue paper, disposable face mask, gauze, safety pin, and spontan.
Hmmm… what else do I need?

So if you’re looking for an easy project, this is a good start :-)

coffee maker

i love my coffee!

coffee maker

When I was in Holland I bought a packet of Douwe Egbert (red) grounded coffee. You can’t buy this brand in Malaysia. It was really good. Not too strong but not too light. I loved it. I cherished every sip, every drop of coffee that comes out from each spoonful of grounded bean. Then one fine day, it was my last cup. The 500g of beans had to finish one day and that day came too soon :(

When I’m back in Holland again, I’m gonna get like 100 packets and bring them all home!!!! But till then, I continue my search for nice coffee beans to brew at home. By the way, Starbucks don’t count. Their coffee is one of my favourite but only when bought ready made from their outlets.

Anyway, I might have found a close substitute for my Douwe Egbert.. it’s the Ikea organic coffee beans. I thinks it’s Arabica. It will work for now!

Made this baby to keep my coffee maker covered when its not in used.

chic pillows for my outdoor space

Hello again! Earlier today I mentioned that I did some sewing last week.

Here’s what I sewed.

2 large and fluffy pillows and a table cloth for my “outdoor space”.
my outdoor space - new pillows! 2

This is where I usually have my morning cuppa joe (if the weather’s not too warm). It faces my tiny little garden, and I like to “hang out” here because my dog Scout loves the garden. He chases the birds that come visit us in the mornings.

my outdoor space - new pillows!

I call this place my “Outdoor Space”. Sometimes I sew here, and occasionally my Mom does the prayers here.

And by the way, I need to confess it’s the first time in my life sewing on PIPINGS… I know how it’s done, I’ve seen it done… but i haven’t done it before until these pillows! *clap hand* hehe…

A closer look:

I know I should have iron. But iron and me are not so close friend ^^

And of course, I had to show you this! I was trying out a new pattern couple of weeks back, and yay! a new handbag for me!
and a new handbag )

Now, I’m going to really enjoy my outdoor space with a cuppa green tea. I love green tea. It’s evening, it’s dark and it’s cooling after the rain this afternoon.

More coasters

So I just cannot have enough of the leafy felty non-slipy coasters!

Hahahaha!

Actually I just wanted to show you these 1st batch on non-slip leaf coasters.

They kinda became my favourite because of the printed felt, plus the non-slip is attached on with mod podge !
Yeap. Took 6 hours to dry plus lots of sticky fingers after that.

I love them.

Get them here.

Coasters coasters

As promised, I said I will re-open my Etsy shop in May.
It’s now May the 3rd. I’ve started listing stuff in my shop. That also indirectly means… drum roll pleaseeeeeee…. I’ve started sewing again *wink wink*.

Fingers cross, I will have time to continue the sewing.

Frankly, I prefer taking custom orders. That way, I sew only when there is an order, and I can make it 100% to the liking of my customer a.k.a. CUSTOM MADE… hehehe…

However, listing in Etsy is good too, as it helps me get some publicity. As you know, I do not promote. Well hardly. Not even by words of mouth i.e. I don’t go around telling people I sew and I sell. If it’s mentioned then it’s mentioned. If not then it’s not said. I guess I need to improve on my networkings. :-)

This COASTERS are made of felt.
Leaf felt COASTERS Pink Green

I really love how it turned out, and so proud *shoulder pat* of myself for thinking about this.

The “coaster” idea was inspired by the need for me to use a coaster all the time as it is very humid and hot in Malaysia! My ice cold drink leaves water stain on my table all.the.time and worst it sometimes gets to my stuff on the table. Not good. So coasters come in very very handy.

The idea to use FELT came while I was cleaning my fabric cupboard. I realised I had a whole stack of felt (about a foot tall) and I do not know what to use them for! No point keeping, I need the space. So it’s more like destashing + creating.

The coasters below has a layer of non-slip material. The idea of the non-slip was also due to my spring cleaning efforts.

Leaf felt COASTERS non slip Pink Red

I found a whole 2 metres roll of non-slip, which was stashed somewhere along with other stuff which I bought for just-in-case-i-need-them-one-day. Believe me when I say it’s not easy to sew the non-slip on. I had to use tracing paper as a “go-between” my sewing maching and the felt. Not to mention, my first try was to glue (mod podge) the non-slip to the felt. It worked out well, but started out rather messy and of course I did not have the patience to wait for them to dry!

But everything worked out fine in the end. I’m Happy.

Come support me in my Etsy shop. The COASTERS are already listed, together with some cute floral pouches.

Just something random I made.

Polkadot Hearts.

I guess this can be a small placemat, or coaster, or I’ll just leave it hanging on my wall.

It needs ironing though…

So how is your day so far?

I’m starting to love Picnik the photo editing tool.
Unfortunately they are closing Picnik down in April :( boo hoo…
What kind of tools do you use to edit your photos?

For the house

I’ve been feeling very moody lately, which contributes to my laziness. Although I have the time, but with the hot weather and all other things, sewing has become quite a chore. :-(

I know I’ve neglected my shop. But it’s alright, I will be having a SALE as soon as it takes me to get photos taken and listed. I promise to do this ASAP.

Meanwhile, 2 easy projects I started 2 weeks ago is completed. Bias tape sewing is not one of my favourite, but this time I found it rather therapeutic (handsewing!).

Cloth peg hanger for my laundry. Pattern from the Cath Kidston book Sew!. I changed the top slightly (not slanting like in the pattern) to suit the hanger I planned to use.

Then there is this apron I made for myself. Love the prints! I bought this lovely fabric in The Hague.

hola! como estas?

It feels like it’s been so long since I updated this blog!

2011 started with me having to travel more often than not for work. I’ve been spending most of my time in Holland and Singapore. Hotel rooms has become my second home :-). After almost 7 months of intensive travelling, I am finally back home with no immediate plan to board the plane. I’m glad.

The next time I board the plane, it would be going for my long planned for vacation cum pilgramage. I’m going to Spain!!! To see the Pope !!!! And to walk 30km a day for 5 days. Yippie!

Nothing crafty done by me in this post (i’m going to correct this soon)… except that I bought myself this book :

Sew! Cath Kidston

And it comes with a kit to make my own bag! Horray!
See… “Everything you need to make this bag inside!” *big smile*
Sew! Cath Kidston

I have this buzzing thought that I should re-arrange my fabric according to colour group. Currently they are arranged according to purchase batch (which is the easiest way). Well maybe I will :-)

I’m Slightly Sad

because my sewing machine is not feeling well.

I suspect it’s the thread tension. Tried correcting it, but somehow it didn’t work :-(.

My latest project I whipped up yesterday and today.

pillow cases

The white one is nicely sewn (b4 the machine got sick…), but the yellow one has missing stitches, crooked stitches… and I don’t know how to correct them !!!! Gosh I’m hopeless !!!

Happy Bunny Year !!!!

Happy Chinese New Year !!!

This year is the year of the Rabbit. What cute little creatures.

The Lunar new year is a 15 day celebration and today is the 5th day.

The first 2 days was really busy for me, juggling between my day job and the festivity of the new year. Yes, I had to work during the holidays because of some urgent project. Oh well… it was ok because I worked from home, and I had a chance to recuperate during the weekends.

Psstt… if you’re looking for my OWOH Giveaway, CLICK HERE. It ends at February 17th, on Cap Goh Meh which is the 15 & last day of Chinese New Year.

I created these coasters, placemats, and bowl covers just before Chinese New Year… obviously I’m inspired by the cute little bunnies.
Bunny coasters

Finally use the Lite Steam-A-Seam I bought months back. They are very easy to use and made the applique stick nicely. I love it… but it’s rather costly for me, as I needed to get them from ebay.

Other than the above, not much sewing… just spending my free time watching dvds with my Parents and playing with my dog… sempena cuti tahun baru cina (inconjunction with celebrating chinese new year).

Some totally random stuff :

Scout got a new pillow (and he lovessss it!!!). The sky blue fabric is fleece. It is very soft and nice, indeed a fabulous fabric to use for babies.

scout's new pillow

And I got myself a new netbook !! Really cool, now that I can blog & surf from MY OWN netbook and not the company provided laptop 😛

I hope you are all having a fabulous time. I somewhat am. Don’t forget to join my OWOH Giveaway here.
